Check usefulness before technical labels
Assign one purpose to each page: explain a service, answer a planning question, or support a contact decision. The page should add information visitors can use rather than repeat a slogan. Verify business information and remove unsupported reviews, statistics, or outcome promises.
Use a clear H1 and descriptive H2 sections. Do not place important details only in images. Link naturally to the service, pricing, or supporting guide that answers the next question.
Verify titles and canonical URLs in rendered HTML
Give each indexable page a unique title and a useful description. A title should identify the page, not repeat the business name several times. A canonical should point to the intended public URL with the correct host and path.
- One clear H1 and a logical heading hierarchy.
- Unique title and description reflecting visible content.
- Self-referencing canonical for the preferred indexable URL.
- Page-specific Open Graph and social metadata.
- Descriptive images and alt text based on their purpose.
Check response codes and discovery
Important links should be crawlable anchors. Include canonical indexable pages in the sitemap and allow required rendering assets in robots.txt. Return a real 404 for a missing page. Blocking a page in robots.txt is not the same as removing it from the index.
Structured data should match visible content and truthful business details. Do not invent ratings or addresses. Schema can describe the page, but markup alone does not guarantee a search feature.
Test the visitor action and the live site
Run a narrow-screen review and keyboard check. Submit only authorised test enquiries and confirm the receiving workflow. After deployment, inspect the public URL, its canonical, robots directives, and actual status; a staging test cannot prove the live configuration.
- Forms and contact links behave as described.
- No hidden menus trap focus or block page content.
- Images have dimensions and proportionate file sizes.
- No important page is accidentally noindexed.
- Search Console is verified by the owner and the sitemap is submitted.
Questions Before You Start
Can a meta description guarantee a displayed snippet?
No. Google may choose a different snippet from page content. Write a useful description and make the page itself clear.
Should I put every keyword in image alt text?
No. Describe the image when it conveys information. Decorative images should not be used for keyword repetition.
